Yikes! I have not posted here for several years. Since this is supposed to be an informal blog anyhow, there really is no excuse for that! I'll try to put a little something up everyday related to my exciting experiences in the fast paced world of sitting at my desk... um, I mean, translation!
So, things have been incredibly slow since about a month or so after the Great East Japan Earthquake. For about a month or so after that horrible quake, I was receiving more work than I had ever had before. It was a weird, intense rush. Then, things slowed down to horrifying new lows.
Right now I do have this weird translation related job going on that is saving my well seated buttocks from poverty and keeping my family fed. One of my long time clients is having me design content for his website. I write articles in Japanese and then translate them into English, and he of course fixes up my Japanese. It's pretty cool. The really awesome thing is that I get to write about my art! And show pretty pictures, too. I'll post a link when he starts putting the content up. Apparently he wants to build up a hefty backlog of articles before he starts on the project, so he can put stuff up in a regular fashion even if I get busy with other projects and cannot write for him for a while. Anyhow, it is totally exciting. When it launches, native readers of both Japanese and English will be able to get side by side translations of a guy rambling on and on about his art. But I try to spice it up with references to Shakespeare, the Bible, and tons of tidbits about all of the American, European, and Japanese artists who have influenced the pieces I am showing there.
And off I go to write more right now!
